Every second a page takes to load is a second a visitor spends deciding whether to wait. On mobile data, most people don’t. Speed is no longer a technical nice-to-have: it shapes your search rankings, your ad costs and, most of all, how many visitors turn into customers.
The numbers worth aiming for
Google measures real-world speed with Core Web Vitals. These are the targets we build every SkyNiqo website to hit:
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) under 2.5 seconds – the main content is visible quickly.
- Interaction to Next Paint (INP) under 200 ms – buttons and menus respond instantly.
- Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) under 0.1 – nothing jumps around while the page loads.
As a simple rule, a business page should feel ready in under two seconds on a mid-range phone.
What slows most websites down
When we audit slow sites, the same culprits appear again and again:
- Oversized images. A 4 MB hero photo is still the most common problem. Modern formats like WebP and AVIF cut file sizes by 60–80%.
- Too many plugins and scripts. Every chat widget, slider and tracking tag adds weight. Many are loaded on pages that don’t need them.
- Cheap hosting. A slow server delays everything that comes after it.
- No caching. Without page and browser caching, the server rebuilds every page for every visitor.
The fastest request is the one your website never has to make.
The fixes that make the biggest difference
You don’t need to rebuild your site to see results. Start with these, in this order:
- Compress and resize images, and lazy-load anything below the fold.
- Remove plugins you no longer use and delay non-essential scripts until after the page loads.
- Turn on page caching and a CDN such as Cloudflare.
- Move to hosting with modern PHP and server-level caching.
- Use a lightweight theme and avoid stacking several page-builder add-ons.
How to measure your own site
Run your homepage and one key service page through PageSpeed Insights. Look at the mobile score first, because that is where most of your visitors are. Then check the “Core Web Vitals” section in Google Search Console to see how real visitors experience your site over time.
The bottom line
A fast website quietly improves everything else you do: your SEO, your ads and your conversion rate. If your site takes longer than three seconds to load on a phone, it is costing you customers today. Ask us for a free speed check and we will show you exactly what to fix first.
